This is especially good if you have wireless headphones as they may just fix everything on their own. You could also try restarting your system completely.
Most non-Apple devices can also be fixed by changing their output from Speakers to Headphones. If you’re using an iPhone or other Apple device and still have no sound, go to Settings > Sound > Output and set them to Headphones. If you hear music through that, then it’s most likely a problem with your headphones and not your computer. Try plugging in another device, like a phone or another headset. No sound may be a problem with your microphone, not with your computer.
Even if you click on Install boot override, that can be undone by clicking on Remove boot override. If yes, click on Install boot override.Īnything you do in HDAJackRetask will be undone by a reboot, so don't be afraid to play with it. If you find a pin that can be changed to either, do so, then click on Apply now, and see if it shows up in your sound settings. If that didn't work, click on Show unconnected pins, then check the box for each not connected pin in the left pane, and see if it can be changed to headset mic or headphone mic. If yes, click on Install boot override then reboot and test that it works. Double click on that until it says yes, then click on Apply now, and see if a headset mic or headphone mic has been added to your sound settings. Down near the bottom of the list that opens up is add_hp_mic. First make sure ALC887-VD is selected in the upper left, then check the box for Parser hints.
You either need to use a splitter thingie like I posted above, or we could attempt to add one via software (no guarantees it'll work.) If you want to try the software way, install alsa-tools-gui and run HDAJackRetask. Your codec doesn't have a quirk to add anything like a headset mic.
